Who are we?

Scīre is a student-run online journal centered around the intersection between science and history. Our name, (pronounced /skee-reh/), is derived from the Latin verb "to know", and reflects our magazine's mission: education and exploration.

We provide high school and college students with the platform to investigate and share the history behind scientific discovery, whether that means tracing the evolutionary path of birds from the Triassic to the Holocene period or assessing the cultural implications of the polio vaccine. Through student-led inquiry, we foster dialogue that ultimately promotes education on the social and cultural dimensions of scientific advancement.

In a field often overlooked at the secondary level, Scīre encourages students to take an interdisciplinary approach to STEM subjects. By empowering young writers, Scīre encourages students to contribute meaningfully to academic conservations on both planes of science and humanities; and in doing so, cultivates an environment built on curiosity and insight.
